Wildfire Awareness Month - May, 2023
Over 75% of wildfires in Montana are human-caused, and with fire season just around the corner, now is the time to reduce your community’s wildfire risk. Wildfire Awareness Month (WAM!) is a multi-state initiative for western states to come together in raising awareness of wildfire – its causes, effects, ecological necessity, and prevention. Every year western governors, including our own Governor Bullock, issue state proclamations to declare May as Wildfire Awareness Month. Join us this May in raising your awareness of wildfire, and taking action to reduce your wildfire risk.
Wildfire Community Preparedness Day - Saturday, May 1, 2023
This Wildfire Community Preparedness Day, stay safe at home by performing simple do-it-yourself maintenance projects. Whether you are mowing the lawn, raking debris, pruning trees, or even going as far as replacing your roof with fire-resistant material, you are working to prepare and protect your family, home, and community. In partnership with the Montana Department of Natural Resources, United States Forest Service, and other local partners, KMG is offering free tools to help you reduce your home’s wildfire risk. Use these tips, videos, and publications to make your property more fire adapted. Send us pictures of your own home projects and share this campaign on social media using #WildfirePrepDay!
